| MINIATURE OF A TEMPLE Stone A very unusual miniature stone carving of the façade of a three storied temple. The structure is reminiscent of an early Indian temple with its horseshoe shaped windows and the female figures emerging from the building. The upturned ends of the roofs, however point in other directions. The steep stairs and guardian lions flanking the stairs are features typical of Khmer temples. This unusual carving probably dates from the period of “Indianization” in Southeast Asia when Indian prototypes were first adopted for the devotional arts. |
