HEAD OF BUDDHA
Schist
Peshawar, Pakistan
H 33 cm
An imposing head of Buddha carved in schist. The classical head, with a marked Greco-Buddhist flavor, accentuated by the long straight neck, conveys the strength and concentration provided by his enlightenment. The face is framed by beautifully rendered hair formed by wavy strands also covering the Usnisha, the cranial protuberance, one of the iconographic features of the Buddha. |
