BODHISATTVA
Schist
Gandhara, Kushan, Pakistan
Stone carving of a Bodhisattva standing on a base fronted by a scene of the historic Buddha flanked by his disciples. The Bodhisattva is dressed in the manner of the Kushan princes of the period, with ornate jewellery across his bare chest.
The style of the draping and the sandals reveal the Greco-Roman influence which was felt in this area in that period. |
