TUSK Ivory Benin, 18th/19th century Ivory tusk carved with the “king’s marks” (II) and with the interlaced ornament, the visual mark of the royal carvers of Benin organized in a guild. The Oba’s treasure contained a large quantity of ivory tusks as he was entitled to one of each pair of tusks. |
