A metal ewer (aftaba) , executed in the bidri technique (silver inlay work on objects of a metal alloy rich in zinc) The body of the ewer is a slightly compressed sphere, with a long straight spout, and an S shaped handle. The main decorative pattern is a restrained design of silver inlays of scrollwork and quatrefoils alternating with stylized flowers.
These ewers were used in the Muslim courts of India for washing the hands before prayers and meals.
